Despite constant reminders to ourselves that “Mother’s Day is coming up” and aspirations to plan ahead, chances are that sending a last-minute gift may become a reality for many. Only 15% of flower orders on DoorDash were scheduled in advance last Mother’s Day – with 11% scheduled the day before – meaning the other 85% of orders were placed on-demand.
To help last-minute shoppers give mom everything they deserve and more on-demand without the gift feeling rushed, DoorDash Canada is unveiling insights about how Canadians celebrated Mother’s Day in 2024.
Starting the Day with Breakfast in Bed, Alongside Flowers and Gifts
The first gift for Mother’s Day? Extra sleep, which means extra time to stick the landing to coordinate the perfect delivery. 11:52am was the most popular time for breakfast orders to arrive via DoorDash, though flowers may be on the menu to arrive earlier, with the most bouquets blooming at 10:45am. Save the doorbell ringing for after when mom gets her well-deserved beauty sleep.
If you’re placing a grocery order on DoorDash to treat mom to homemade breakfast in bed, chances are fresh ingredients in your cart may include chicken breasts, eggs, cilantro, and strawberries – four items which each saw above a 20,000% increase in sales on Mother’s Day compared to other Sundays last May. Mimosas are also on the menu. Within the same timeframe comparison, DoorDash found sales for sparkling wine and orange juice on DoorDash increased by over 35% each in Ontario.
