“When I came to this country, I had a burning desire for education,” says Cindy.

Born and raised in the South American country of Guyana, Cindy struggled with literacy as a child. Once she arrived in the US, Cindy dedicated herself to learning and started at a community college.

Eventually, she found herself working at JP Morgan—and she was ready to give back.

Cindy founded Kupanda Sisters, which “partners with international organizations to find sustainable programs that can teach children how to read.”

She was well on her way to seeing her vision come to life when the pandemic hit. That’s when funding dried up, and she worried about the future of her nonprofit.

But as usual, Cindy persevered and landed on a solution: DoorDash.

“And then it just came to me—this is the plan in keeping my doors open,” she says.

Cindy started dashing whenever she could, and the funds started adding up.

“I started dashing, and I felt really good that I was able to bring my vision to reality to impact these young people.”

“With DoorDash, there's just great flexibility. I can dash when I want, I make my own schedule,” Cindy explains.

“So the extra money that I've made from DoorDash actually kept the doors open.”
