Responding to Regulatory Changes in British Columbia

Due to increased costs resulting from new regulations in British Columbia, we are announcing important changes to the DoorDash experience in the province.

Implementing a Regulatory Response Fee

As of September 3, 2024, Dashers fulfilling delivery orders in British Columbia now earn at least $20.88 per hour, before tips, plus an additional 35 cents per kilometre, during time spent on each delivery.

The new guaranteed wage of $20.88 per hour while on delivery is 20 percent higher than the current, regular minimum wage in B.C. of $17.40. This rate does not count tips and mileage and is just a minimum, so Dashers still have the opportunity to earn even more.

These new regulations are significantly increasing our operating costs. Beginning October 1, all delivery orders placed through DoorDash in B.C. will include a new regulatory response fee of $0.99 for restaurant delivery orders and up to $2.99 for all other delivery orders. This regulatory response fee will be clearly communicated to consumers the first time they open DoorDash after the fee is implemented, and it will be displayed at check-out. This fee will apply in addition to any applicable delivery, service, and expanded range fees. Customers may also see increased service fees for delivery orders.

We recognize that this is a significant change, but it is necessary to cover the higher costs caused by the province’s new regulations and to continue providing a high-quality experience.

These regulations are still in their early days, and we will continue to closely monitor the impact they will have in the province. In the months ahead, we may have to make further changes that could further impact the experience of everyone who uses the DoorDash platform: consumers, merchants, and Dashers.

In the meantime, we will continue to engage with policymakers and focus on what matters most: serving local communities across the region.
