Announcing the next phase in the Dasher Rewards Program

Yesterday, California voters approved Proposition 22. This victory belongs to the tens of thousands of Dashers and small businesses who advocated so forcefully for this campaign, as well as the customers and the communities we serve. Californians embraced a new, progressive approach to the future of work that provides certainty, economic security, and continuity for the millions of Californians who look to DoorDash to earn supplemental income. And just as importantly, it creates a framework that allows us to double down on our commitment to empowering local California economies. For the first time, DoorDash is able to provide historic new protections to workers in California as soon as the provisions of Prop 22 take effect.

Prop 22 Victory Is a Clear Win for Dashers, Merchants, and Customers. Here’s What Happens Next.

Today, we find ourselves in an unprecedented situation, one that requires all of us to take measures above and beyond what we previously could have imagined. What I have witnessed over the past couple of weeks has been nothing less than extraordinary. It has been humbling to watch DoorDash merchants, customers, and Dashers come together to support each other. I want to share an update with you about our continued efforts to make sure that everyone in our communities is well fed and well cared for.

Supporting Local Businesses and Communities in a Time of Need

In August, we announced that we would be implementing a new pay model to better serve Dashers and consumers alike. As part of our announcement, we pledged that on average Dashers would earn more money from DoorDash and more money overall under our new pay model – and that we would be holding ourselves accountable to that pledge. We began rolling out the new pay model to Dashers in September. As of October 1, all Dashers had been transitioned to the new pay model, so we now have a complete month of data and feedback from Dashers to help us assess what’s going well and where we can improve.

From DoorDash’s very start, we’ve seen Dashers as one of our key customers. We aim to provide the best possible experience every day and take every aspect of the Dasher’s role seriously. Pay is obviously a big part of the Dasher equation. In this spirit, over the past few months we’ve slowly been rolling out an updated pay model for Dashers: one that is designed to make pay for every delivery more fair and more consistent, while providing more information about the delivery ahead of time. After months of testing and thanks to feedback from thousands of Dashers, the vast majority of Dashers are already on the new pay model and it will be enabled for the few remaining Dashers by the end of the month.

Bringing Fairer Dasher Pay Nationwide

Ahead of this Earth Day, we are introducing a new green partnership with GenZe – the company behind the popular zero-emission electric bikes – to offer e-bikes as an alternative mode of transportation for Dashers in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Vancouver and Washington D.C.
