As part of our commitment to combat food insecurity across communities in Canada, DoorDash is proud to support the Allan Gardens Food Bank in Toronto with a contribution from our Community Credits program.
With a donation of $5,000 in Community Credits, DoorDash is providing Allan Gardens with a large shipment of pantry staples and other essential items to help restock its shelves and feed weekly clients and meal delivery recipients who are supported by the food bank’s community-driven work.
"Supporting the impactful work of local organizations like the Allan Gardens Food Bank through Community Credits is crucial to our mission of growing and empowering local communities," says Shilpa Arora, General Manager of DoorDash Canada. "Spending the day with other volunteers to provide nutritious staples to hundreds of Torontonians was incredibly inspiring and underscores the importance of increasing food access for people experiencing food insecurity."
Operating out of St. Luke’s United Church in Downtown Toronto, Allan Gardens Food Bank has a long history of social ministry in the community. The food bank currently serves over a thousand clients each week who are experiencing food insecurity and supports a meal program that distributes an additional 600 meals per week. The food bank receives contributions from Second Harvest and Daily Bread, in addition to receiving corporate donations from Farm Boy, Circle K, Boston Pizza, Rotary Club of Toronto, and the National Ballet of Canada.
“We at the Allan Gardens Food Bank are very grateful for the donation from DoorDash,” said Morgan Harris, Executive Director of Allan Gardens Food Bank. “The Community Credits that we have received will go a long way in purchasing much needed food items, particularly protein, for the nearly 1,400 community members we serve each week.”
DoorDash’s Community Credits program provides DoorDash gift cards to non-profit organizations who share goals to provide greater access to food and essentials to people in our communities. In 2023 alone, the program distributed $128,500 in Community Credits to local organizations across Canada who are working to reduce food insecurity.
