Today, DoorDash is proud to unveil its 2024 US Economic Impact Report, our comprehensive report measuring how we help local communities and small businesses thrive by providing flexible ways to earn, expanding local businesses’ access to customers, and connecting consumers with everything they need, when they need it. 

The findings in the report are clear: DoorDash continues to deliver for communities by helping local economies grow. In 2024 alone, DoorDash supported more than $106 billion in economic activity and nearly $20 billion in tax revenues in the United States.

”Across the US, DoorDash’s impact is felt every day whenever a consumer gets their favorite meal, groceries, or a last-minute item from a neighborhood favorite,” said Cheryl Young, Head of Policy Research at DoorDash. “We’re excited to unveil our Economic Impact Report detailing how dashing helps Dashers achieve their goals, delivery makes busy parents’ lives easier, and how partnering with DoorDash supports the local businesses — from restaurants to flower shops and more —  that are key to our economy.”

Local Businesses on DoorDash Generated Over $40 Billion in 2024

Hundreds of thousands of businesses in the US — from restaurants and grocers to flower shops and convenience stores — use DoorDash to connect with more customers and grow their earnings. In 2024, local businesses reported that being on the DoorDash platform paid dividends: together, US merchants made over $40 billion in sales on DoorDash. 

In our 2024 US merchant survey, local businesses see DoorDash as a key partner in achieving their goals:

  • 85% said that without DoorDash, they would have lower overall revenue and 89% said without DoorDash, they would have lower customer growth

  • 88% said it has helped them reach new customers they otherwise wouldn’t have been able to access 

  • 78% said DoorDash has helped them establish a bigger presence in their local community

  • 85% would recommend partnering with DoorDash to other businesses

US Dashers Earned Over $16 Billion In 2024

Through DoorDash, Dashers work when and how they choose to achieve their financial goals on their own terms. The average Dasher spends less than 4 hours per week on delivery. In 2024, more than 7 million US Dashers earned over $16 billion on the platform. 

Everyone has their reason for dashing — whether it’s to save up for a big purchase, pay off existing debt, or navigate the rising cost of living — but no matter their reason, Dashers value the flexibility and opportunity that dashing provides.

In our 2024 US Dasher survey, we found that:

  • 92% said dashing provides them with more flexibility than other earning opportunities 

  • 88% said they are happy with the overall experience of dashing

  • 86% said dashing made them feel more in control of their circumstances 

  • 78% said they feel less stressed about their financial situation because they can dash when they need to

  • 63% said that the ability to create their own schedule was the top reason why they delivered using DoorDash

“Dashing has helped me pay off medical and credit card debt in the past. Now, I use it mainly to bridge the gap financially if my paycheck isn't as much as I thought it would be or if I want to treat myself and don't have any money to do so,” one Dasher told DoorDash.

In addition to the benefits of being able to flexibly earn on the platform, Dashers also enjoy connecting with people in their communities. 96% of Dashers reported that they feel satisfied with their experience of getting to know restaurants and local businesses in their local community, and 91% said dashing has helped them to get to know their local community.

“Since I started dashing, my quality of life has been better… I have made many friends that work at restaurants and other Dashers. I would not have met these people if it wasn’t for DoorDash. I have made some lifelong friendships,” said a Dasher.

70% of Consumers Said That Without DoorDash, They Would Make Fewer Purchases from Local Businesses

Consumers consistently rely on DoorDash to get them the items they need when they need them — whether it's groceries, takeout, home goods, or other everyday essentials — helping them save time and money.

In 2024 alone, ordering through DoorDash allowed customers to save an estimated 531 million hours in total. That means more time spent with their family and friends, focusing on their jobs, or doing something they enjoy.

In our 2024 consumer survey, we found that:

  • 89% said DoorDash gives them more control over their time

  • 95% said DoorDash reduces the burden of cooking when they don’t have time

  • 83% said they had used DoorDash to order items when they couldn’t make it to a store

DoorDash also plays a critical role in supporting people who face barriers to accessing meals, groceries, and everyday necessities — including more than 1 in 5 respondents who said they have a disability, mobility issue, or chronic illness and the 11% of respondents who are SNAP recipients.
