James volunteers with the media team at his church and a local nonprofit. He enjoys serving others, which extends to his work as a Dasher.

“It's a great thing for me because there are people who are disabled and can't physically leave their house. I have the opportunity to bring them what they need to live groceries, medical stuff, and things like that that. I'm like the medium to help them get what they need. It's a privilege for me to be able to help them, and they've shown their gratitude in many different ways.”

Dashing allows James to choose when, where, and how often he works — ensuring he can continue to dash for the foreseeable future.

“It's a great way to make money. I also met some really great people along the way. It's really fun. It can be a full-time job, or it can be just extra income. It all depends on how you're willing to work.”

The flexibility of being an independent contractor allows James to earn money while balancing other responsibilities, serving his community, meeting new people, and tending to his family.

“Independent contractor mode works. If you're working, you're out doing a route, and an emergency comes up, and you have to stop what you're doing, you would get fired on the spot at a regular job. You wouldn't have a job to come back to. But here, you can end the dash, go do what you have to do and come back.”
