Meeting DashRoots

Local economies only thrive when the people and businesses they’re made up of have a seat at the table when policy decisions are made. That’s why we created DashRoots–an advocacy network that empowers local voices to strengthen the communities we serve. Now, in less than two years, this network has grown to include just over 120,000 members. From Dashers to small business owners to concerned community members, this coalition allows people from all walks of life to make their voices heard on the public policy issues that matter most to them.

In recent weeks, DashRoots has been instrumental in mobilizing thousands of Dashers across the U.S. regarding the No Tax on Tips Act being considered by Congress. As written today, this bill excludes independent workers like Dashers from receiving the same tax break as millions of other tipped workers. We think this is just plain wrong–Dasher tips should be treated the same as everyone else’s. Through the DashRoots network, we were able to connect nearly 40,000 Dashers across the country with their representatives in Congress, leading to more than 120,000 letters to U.S. Senators and House Representatives in all 50 States and the District of Columbia.

The work doesn’t stop there. In the coming months, a group of Dashers and merchants from the DashRoots coalition will travel to Washington, DC to meet with their federal representatives and discuss the issues facing their communities. From the ongoing affordability crisis to the importance of access to independent and flexible work, this community has a clear set of priorities and DashRoots is the tool that allows them to bring those priorities to the forefront with lawmakers.

Local economies matter to everyone, which is why DashRoots is available to anyone. Whether you’re a Dasher, a local business owner or just a concerned member of your community, this network was designed so that you could more easily make your voice heard in the halls of power. We’re beyond proud of the DashRoots community and of this milestone, and we know that we’re just getting started.
