Walk into any local liquor store and the shelves are stocked with craft brews, small-batched spirits and local wines. In small towns and big cities across the country, these merchants showcase the best of what their communities have to offer, and in today’s economy, that extends far beyond the storefront. That’s why DoorDash is proud to expand access to safe and responsible alcohol delivery as a way to support local businesses, Dashers, and customers alike.
Alcohol delivery is about more than just convenience for customers: it means merchants can grow their businesses and connect with new customers, and Dashers can earn more money while making deliveries. All of that happens while ensuring that safety and responsible delivery remain the top priority thanks to our industry-leading compliance measures.
Throughout 2024, we’ve made strides to expand safe and responsible alcohol delivery so Dashers and businesses succeed, and customers have an even better experience on our platform as they shop local.

Opportunities For Local Businesses
With the right tools and partnerships, delivery helps merchants of all sizes thrive in a rapidly evolving marketplace. Expanding alcohol delivery is one way to help merchants get ahead and share products from their community, like local beers, artisan wines, or creative cocktails. When it’s available to them, merchants are ready to embrace this opportunity to offer consumers a wider selection: the number of liquor stores available on DoorDash Marketplace in the U.S. grew by nearly 50% and the number of total U.S. merchants selling alcohol on DoorDash Marketplace increased by over 20% in 2024.
Allowing third-party alcohol delivery helps small businesses reach more customers and grow. In 2024, more than 64% of alcohol delivery orders through DoorDash were from small businesses. U.S. independent liquor stores in particular experienced substantial growth: over 55% more joined DoorDash Marketplace in the past year and for those merchants, the median store saw over a 40% increase in sales within the first six months on the platform.
“As a local business, community means everything to us. Choosing DoorDash for alcohol delivery has been a game changer. It’s helped us expand our delivery options, connect with more people in our community and grow in ways we couldn’t have before. Since joining DoorDash Marketplace, we’ve seen a real boost in sales and have built stronger connections with both our loyal regulars and new customers we wouldn’t have reached otherwise. We’re especially proud to offer a wide selection of wines and other craft beverages made right here in New York, and it feels great to know we are helping other local businesses thrive with us.” - Mandy Chi, Owner of Parsons Wine and Liquor, Queens, NY
Increasing Earning Opportunities for Dashers
When merchants grow on our platform, that means more opportunities for Dashers to earn. Alcohol delivery is expanding and becoming a new vehicle for Dashers to maximize their earnings. In 2024, nationwide Dasher earnings, on average, increased by over 15% from alcohol with deliveries compared to deliveries without alcohol.
“Doing alcohol deliveries has really made a difference for me. Due to the nature of the deliveries, they usually come in as a double or triple order. It has helped me earn more on each delivery, which means I can stay on the road a little less and still hit my goals. That extra income goes a long way—it helps with bills, saving for personal needs, and even gives me more time at home with my family. For me and a lot of other Dashers, alcohol delivery has opened the door to more flexibility and better earnings.” - Shawn S., Dasher from Texas
Setting the Standard for Responsible Alcohol Delivery
Over the past year, we’ve continued to lead the industry in building a safe and responsible alcohol delivery experience for customers, Dashers, and merchants. Alcohol orders through DoorDash include a four-step-at-the-door ID check to help ensure orders are delivered only to customers over 21. We’ve strengthened this process by rolling out enhanced scanning technology that verifies government-issued IDs at the door.
We’ve also made our in-app alcohol compliance module more accessible to Dashers. As a result, the number of Dashers completing the module has more than doubled year over year–strengthening an important resource for Dashers that reinforces the key principles of safe alcohol delivery, including proper use of ID verification.
“We work hard to build the most trusted alcohol delivery platform for consumers, merchants, and Dashers,” said Jacob Morello, Director and General Manager of Alcohol and Regulated Goods at DoorDash. “Whether it’s strengthening our industry-leading safety protocols or launching innovative features to help local businesses grow with responsible delivery, we are committed to ensuring that responsible alcohol delivery can have a positive impact throughout our communities.”
Collaboration with stakeholders is another important way to create safer standards for the entire industry. We’ve joined forces with the Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility (Responsibility.org) and signed on to be part of the International Alliance for Responsible Drinking (IARD) Global Standards Coalition, working together to promote safety in the communities we serve.
At DoorDash, we’re committed to supporting the local businesses that make our cities and towns unique. Whether it’s a family-run wine shop on Main Street or a corner store with a carefully curated beer fridge, we’ll keep working to ensure they have the tools and technology to grow.
