DoorDash launched in Australia two years ago with a mission to empower local economies. Today, we are proud to provide earnings opportunities to more than 40,000 Dashers and partner with 26,000 merchants, reaching over 80 percent of the Australian population.
Aussies have embraced DoorDash with open arms. Over the last year, communities have increasingly relied on platforms like DoorDash to access meals, groceries and essential goods safely and reliably. We’ve helped restaurants grow their businesses and provide convenient delivery to customers, and welcomed so many new Dashers looking to earn money in a way that works for them.
We are committed to providing a platform that serves Dashers, merchants, and customers alike. The goal of every action we take is to enhance the DoorDash platform, improve our service, and to offer meaningful economic opportunities to as many Dashers as possible. At the heart of all of this is safety.
Our commitment to safety means not only ensuring that Dashers have the tools and resources they need to ride safely, but also that we are contributing to the safety of all road users in the wider community.
We are incredibly excited to announce our partnership with Australia’s leading cycling safety charity, The Amy Gillett Foundation (AGF), to deliver a national training and education program for all DoorDash riders across the country. AGF has a strong legacy as road safety advocates in Australia and together we hope to raise awareness of rider safety and create a safer environment for all road users.
As part of the partnership we will be working together to develop an onboarding training course for Dashers. AGF will also be developing a range of in-app tools and materials designed to improve rider safety, including training processes and educational guides to promote safe practices for DoorDash riders.
DoorDash employees will be enrolled in the “train the trainer” program to bolster cycling safety expertise among key staff and further enhance safety culture at DoorDash.
DoorDash and AGF will continue working together to advocate for public policies to help keep vulnerable road users, including Dashers, safe — such as increased investment in bike lane infrastructure, the enforcement of minimum passing distance laws, and speed limit reduction.
This partnership is an extension of our ongoing commitment to advancing safety. Earlier this year DoorDash partnered with industry peers to create Australia’s first-ever set of Food Safety Delivery Principles to build on our existing commitment to improve safety. These Principles seek to address safety for all who use food delivery platforms to access work, whether they are driving a car or riding a bicycle, e-Bike, scooter or motorbike.
We also became the first in the industry to offer occupational accident insurance at no cost to Dashers and with no-opt-in required, helping support Dashers if they’re injured while delivering on our platform.
As part of our mission to empower local economies, we are committed to working with government stakeholders, third-party experts, and most importantly, the Dasher community, to ensure that we are implementing best practices designed to provide Dashers with opportunities to allow them to earn a living while equipping them with the skills and tools to stay safe on Australian roads.
