Last year, we announced our Main Street Strong winter grant program, which initially allocated $2 million to small restaurants across Chicago, Denver, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and San Jose as they confronted the challenges wrought by COVID-19 during the cold weather months. In mid-November, DoorDash announced that as part of our five-year, $200 million Main Street Strong Pledge to empower local communities, we would be expanding that grant program to $10 million. Today, we are pleased to announce the details of the expanded Main Street Strong COVID-19 relief grant program.

Expanding Our Main Street Strong Program to Further Empower Restaurants

We are excited to announce the DoorDash Community Credits program. Through this effort, we are providing DoorDash gift cards to nonprofits that are carrying out our shared goals. We know that having access to meals, essentials, and other items can make a difference for these groups as they work to create greater access and equity for their communities. Organizations in the U.S., Canada and Australia who would like to participate can start by completing this form to be considered for a donation.

Today DoorDash released our first-ever economic impact report, revealing the economic activity generated by our platform and showing the positive impact that DoorDash has had on the restaurant industry since the COVID-19 pandemic began. The analysis further demonstrates our mission to empower local economies and provides a tangible look at how our platform impacts merchants, consumers and the communities we serve.

DoorDash Releases First-Ever Economic Impact Report

Over the past few days, cities and states have had to restrict the operations of restaurants and other businesses. Around the globe, the restaurants that form the backbone of our communities are being asked to change how they operate. According to the National Restaurant Association, the coronavirus epidemic is the greatest crisis the industry has ever faced. Economic forecasts indicate that restaurants and the foodservice industry could sustain $225 billion in losses and eliminate 5–7 million jobs over the next three months. This means the livelihoods of the 15.6 million hardworking people who serve you day in and day out are on the line and as their front doors are shut, they are finding every way possible to continue to serve their customers, primarily by remaining open for delivery and pick-up. Now, more than ever, they need all of our support.
