Thousands of people are using two-wheeled devices such as bikes, e-bikes, and scooters as a way to safely get around and earn extra income in their communities.
By the Numbers: Since 2022, DoorDash has tripled the share of deliveries made using two-wheeled devices throughout the United States and Canada.
In the top 20 cities for deliveries, Dashers using two-wheeled devices earned about 10% more than Dashers using cars.
Many local leaders are considering ways to safely incorporate two-wheeled devices into their communities, and we’re constantly looking for ways to lead the industry forward and make the experience even better for these Dashers on two wheels. Here’s are three big ways we’re doing it:
Expanding Affordability and Access To Safe Devices: People who want to use two-wheeled devices often face challenges, whether that’s because they’re seen as too expensive or hard to buy. DoorDash leads the industry to help ensure two-wheeled devices are affordable and accessible, and we’re continuing to build upon these efforts through partnerships with reputable providers.
We’ve kicked off a new exclusive program with Whizz for Dashers in Chicago to make certified safe e-bikes even more accessible. Through this partnership, Dashers will be able to rent long-range, fully UL certified e-bikes for just $9 in the first month.
Bolstering Battery Safety: We know that lithium-ion battery safety is top of mind for many in their communities where e-bikes are more commonly used, so we have championed policies to better address this issue. In New York City, innovative ideas like battery swapping are showing promising signs towards curbing the risks that unsafe battery charging practices have posed.
To help ensure safe charging is more widely available, we’ve partnered with Swobbee, a multi-modular battery swapping solution, to offer Dashers an exclusive 50% discount on a 3-month subscription.
Additionally, we’ll be supporting Swobbee with recommendations on placing additional battery swapping stations to make them more accessible and convenient for Dashers.
Optimizing Our Platform: We’ve been able to improve the experience for two-wheeled Dashers with more effective mapping and routing to improve efficiency and safety, including taking into account the availability of bike lanes and other bike infrastructure along a suggested delivery route.
We’re also providing more suitable orders for Dashers on two-wheeled devices based on size and weight.
