How Dashing Provides New Work Opportunities for People Experiencing Disabilities

Today, a California appeals court sided with the tens of thousands of Dashers and millions of California voters who made their voices heard when Prop 22 passed overwhelmingly in 2020. This ruling means that the core of Prop 22 remains the law of the land in California, and Dashers can continue to set their own hours, earn flexibly, and rely on the benefits and protections the law affords them. The court’s decision is a huge victory for Dashers who use our platform to earn when, where, and how it works for them and in a way that fits their lifestyle. Last year, 87% of drivers on rideshare and delivery platforms surveyed in California supported Prop 22 and believed the courts should protect the law.

As part of our ongoing work to support Dashers, we’re proud to announce a new integration with GasBuddy that allows Dashers to find the most affordable gas in their area, directly in the Dasher app. This partnership builds on our work to help Dashers maximize their earnings. In 2022, DoorDash announced several initiatives to defray Dashers’ fuel costs through our GasRewards program, which was later extended, and financial empowerment partnerships in the U.S. with the National Urban League, UnidosUS, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the International Rescue Committee, Clerkie, and Everlance designed to help Dashers and others earn, save, and invest.

We recently launched several new safety features including SafeDash™ Check-In to give Dashers greater peace of mind while dashing, Real-Time Safety Alerts to help keep Dashers out of harm’s way, and making it easier than ever for Dashers to report a safety incident. These initiatives build on the measures we have already put in place, including free occupational accident insurance for Dashers and our in-app safety toolkit, SafeDash™.
