How Dashing Provides New Work Opportunities for People Experiencing Disabilities

Today, a California appeals court sided with the tens of thousands of Dashers and millions of California voters who made their voices heard when Prop 22 passed overwhelmingly in 2020. This ruling means that the core of Prop 22 remains the law of the land in California, and Dashers can continue to set their own hours, earn flexibly, and rely on the benefits and protections the law affords them. The court’s decision is a huge victory for Dashers who use our platform to earn when, where, and how it works for them and in a way that fits their lifestyle. Last year, 87% of drivers on rideshare and delivery platforms surveyed in California supported Prop 22 and believed the courts should protect the law.

Helping Dashers stay safe and focused on the road

As part of our ongoing work to support Dashers, we’re proud to announce a new integration with GasBuddy that allows Dashers to find the most affordable gas in their area, directly in the Dasher app. This partnership builds on our work to help Dashers maximize their earnings. In 2022, DoorDash announced several initiatives to defray Dashers’ fuel costs through our GasRewards program, which was later extended, and financial empowerment partnerships in the U.S. with the National Urban League, UnidosUS, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the International Rescue Committee, Clerkie, and Everlance designed to help Dashers and others earn, save, and invest.

Last year, we brought together our first New York Dasher Advisory Group, dedicated to amplifying the voices of Dashers in the Empire State and empowering them to advise on key issues, act as a sounding board for ideas, and shape DoorDash’s future by testing new product features. We know over the past few months people have been feeling the sting at the gas pump. That’s why last month, we announced a Gas Rewards program aimed to offset rapidly rising gas prices. Our goal is to ensure that we provide earning opportunities that remain accessible and viable for all and to keep the most money in Dashers’ pockets.

Over the past two years alone, stories have emerged highlighting several professional athletes who have dashed while working towards their goals, including Zach Wilson, Sammis Reyes, Sam Cosmi, Innis Gaines, David Skinns, T.J. Sikkema, Peter Bayer, Alec Yoder, and more, and this year alone, dozens of prospects from the 2022 professional football draft class have dashed on the DoorDash platform.

Six months ago, we announced that DoorDash would be facilitating the delivery of beer, wine, and spirits via the DoorDash Marketplace. Today, customers across 22 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and markets around the world can responsibly order alcohol through our platform. We recognize customers are seeking safe ways to order alcohol and appreciate that policymakers in a number of states have shifted regulations to enable alcohol takeout and delivery. By facilitating the delivery of beer, wine, and spirits, DoorDash can help merchants grow their business, enable customers to purchase alcohol safely from home, and provide Dashers with additional earning opportunities. We’re eager to show the impact this new service can have on our community.
