Halloween is creeping up and to welcome the fright-filled season, DoorDash uncovered some eerie-sistible trends, from most popular candy state-by-state and nationally to last-minute costumes trending in the eleventh hour and more.*

Enchanting Treats Of The Season: It’s no surprise that chocolate has made its mark as a Halloween must-have, but fruity gummies and sour candies have also claimed their spots as the top candies filling up trick-or-treat bags nationwide.

Regional Sweet Spots: Across the country, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups reigns supreme across 24 states, followed by Gushers Tropical Fruit Flavored Snacks in 15 states and Mars Snickers, Twix, M&M’s assortment in five states. And while these classic treats are favorites from coast to coast, there are some standout states with unique candy preferences: Alabama favors Sour Patch Kids Watermelon, Louisiana craves Airheads Mini Candy, and New Mexico stocks up on Laffy Taffy.

The Biggest Sweet Tooth: We can all agree that candy is the sweetest part of the spooky season, so this year, DoorDash uncovered that Vermont has the biggest sweet tooth by taking a look at the top states that ordered the most amount of candy in the month leading up to and on Halloween.

Costume Craze As The Witching Hour Nears: With Spirit Halloween, Party City and more available for delivery in under an hour**, on average, DoorDash has become a go-to source for consumers scrambling to pull together their perfect Halloween look, even at the eleventh hour. In fact, last year, DoorDash experienced a 759% spike in costume orders during Halloween weekend (10/27-10/29) & on Halloween (10/31).

Here’s a closer look at the most popular trends during Halloween weekend and on Halloween:

  • Comfy in Comfort Food: DoorDash uncovered that consumers are serving up looks of their favorite comfort foods, with spikes in orders for adult costumes of Beef Tacos (905%), Hotdogs (872%), and PB&Js (1,092%). Fruits and veggies weren’t far behind, with spikes in orders for costumes of a Banana (642%), Pickle (535%), and Pumpkin (682%).

  • Accessories For Timeless Classics: Costume accessories are the most often forgotten, but essential, finishing touches for Halloween looks, especially when you’re looking for a quick but timeless costume like Clown, Devil and Vampire, with DoorDash revealing a spike in purchases including clown masks (1,820%), devil accessory kit (1,456%), and vampire teeth (1,193%).

  • Animated Animals: Animals were also a quick solution for last minute costumes, with DoorDash revealing a spike in orders for black cat costume (1,364%), cat ears (1,115%), tiger accessory kit (1,440%), cheetah accessory kit (1,175%) and bunny tail (1,394%).

    • And it’s not just humans getting in on the fun - as we saw pets getting festive too! DoorDash uncovered a 612% spike in costume orders for our furry friends!
