October is National Pizza Month and DoorDash is celebrating by serving up its 2026 Top Pizza Spots*, a list of standout small and medium-sized pizzerias across the country. Last year, Battle of the Slices took us to five of America’s best-known pizza states. This year, we’re taking the battle nationwide.
From Wedgewood Fernando's Pizza (Ohio), slinging its Brier Hill-style squares since 1967, to Coniglio's Old Fashioned Pizza (New Jersey), helmed by a ten-time World Pizza Champion, the list celebrates neighborhood pizza spots serving everything from classic New York-style slices and Chicago deep dish, to Detroit-style squares and plenty of local specialties.
“What I love about pizza is how local it is. Every neighborhood has a spot people are fiercely loyal to,” said Ruth Isenstadt, Head of U.S. Restaurants at DoorDash. “This list celebrates the restaurants that earn that loyalty order after order, and the people behind them who keep finding ways to make a familiar favorite their own. We’re proud to shine a light on some of those local standouts across the country.”
So, How Does America Order Its Pizza?
Americans aren’t slowing down on pizza. In 2025, customers placed nearly 30 million pizza orders** on DoorDash. Here’s what they were ordering:
Pepperoni still rules – Pepperoni was America’s most-ordered pizza topping, with onion and sausage rounding out the top three.
Caramelized onions are having a moment – Orders with caramelized onions and meatballs grew more than 120% year-over-year.
Pineapple has plenty of fans – Despite how much people argue about it, Americans ordered pineapple more often than olives, bacon, chicken, or ham.
White pizza came out on top – With more than 3 million orders, white pizza was the most-ordered pizza style on DoorDash.
New York-style is on the rise – New York-style was the fastest-growing major pizza style, with orders jumping more than 80% year-over-year, while stuffed crust grew more than 45%.
The United States of Pizza
Among this year's standouts are Zachary's Chicago Pizza (California) known for its stuffed spinach and mushroom pie, to Robert's Pizza & Dough Company (Illinois) and its signature "Za Dough" thin crust, perfected over two decades of brick-oven baking, to Market Street Pizza (Texas) and its lineup of specialty pies like street corn and BBQ chicken.
