At the heart of DoorDash’s mission to empower local economies is providing meaningful opportunities for people from all walks of life. We know that a significant number of Dashers on our platform come from diverse backgrounds and that many are immigrants navigating life in the United States, particularly in New York City.

That’s why today, DoorDash and the New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG) are proud to announce a new partnership aimed at expanding access to crucial legal services and counseling for New York City Dashers and their families. NYLAG brings decades of expertise in providing legal services to immigrant communities, impacting the lives of more than 20,000 immigrant New Yorkers who have received assistance they may not otherwise be able to afford or even know about. Together, DoorDash and NYLAG will help Dashers access legal services and counseling that are life-changing and often hard to come by.

Beginning later this summer, NYLAG will host in-person legal clinics specifically for NYC Dashers, where experienced attorneys will provide personalized legal counseling in both English and Spanish. These clinics will offer guidance and support on issues Dashers are facing related to their immigration legal matters, including applications for legal permanent residency, citizenship, asylum, and DACA renewals.

Each clinic will be designed to help create an environment where participating Dashers have the opportunity to receive personalized support for their specific needs and issues. The goal is to equip Dashers with the knowledge and resources they need to make informed decisions and explore their options for a brighter future.

“Right now, New York City’s immigrant communities are facing a humanitarian crisis, and it is vital that they be given the legal support they need to navigate a complex immigration system, assert their rights, and build lives in this country,” said Jodi Ziesemer, Director of the Immigrant Protection Unit at New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG). “These clinics will allow NYLAG's expert immigration lawyers to meet Dashers within a trusted setting, reducing one of the many barriers they face to accessing personalized legal assistance and understanding their options. We thank DoorDash for this partnership and for recognizing the urgent importance of legal support for our immigrant neighbors.”

"We are proud to collaborate with NYLAG on such an important initiative that could provide life-changing resources for Dashers and their families,” said Ivan Garcia, Senior Manager for Northeast Public Engagement at DoorDash. “It is a priority for DoorDash to find meaningful ways to support the diverse communities that Dashers comes from, and this partnership will provide access to the tools needed to navigate the complex immigration process, and guidance from a trusted organization that has helped thousands of immigrants over more than three decades of service.”

“DoorDash and NYLAG’s partnership demonstrates the incredible impact that can be achieved when organizations come together to support their community,” said Frankie Miranda, President and CEO of Hispanic Federation. “We are excited to see this work on behalf of immigrant New Yorkers who use these platforms to help bring in extra income and know that this initiative brings us one step closer to achieving our mutual goals of empowering immigrant communities across New York.”

In the coming weeks, DoorDash will be reaching out directly to NYC Dashers to provide additional information, including how to register, and we also plan to work with many of our local community partners to make sure that Dashers are informed about this opportunity and have the chance to participate.

We’re proud to support New York’s immigrant communities through this partnership, and we are grateful to NYLAG for their commitment to help support Dashers thrive.
