Over our first two years, in partnership with food recovery organizations, we’ve powered the delivery of over two million pounds of food to hunger relief agencies across the U.S. and Canada.
As the COVID-19 crisis continues, some of the most vulnerable people in the communities we serve are at risk. A tremendous need has emerged for last-mile delivery support of food and supplies from hubs like senior centers, schools, and food pantries – to the homes of seniors, the immunocompromised, and people facing food insecurity. To address this need, we’ve expanded Project DASH in a few ways:
We’ve invested in our operations and partnerships teams to ensure we have the capacity to work with any government agency or nonprofit organization for whom our last-mile solution is a fit.
We’re working with a national partner, United Way Worldwide. Together, we are uniquely positioned to bring a solution to scale. In the US, United Way serves 95% of communities across the country, and through our partnership, any of United Way’s local chapters has the potential to offer last-mile delivery capabilities to local social service organizations. DoorDash will partner with United Way and the 211 network to launch these services in select cities on a rolling basis.
We’ve developed enhanced logistics solutions to accomplish this at scale through our Drive fulfillment platform.
In our first three weeks, we formed new partnerships with more than a dozen local governments and nonprofits nationwide, and Dashers helped deliver over 150,000 meals to vulnerable communities in the face of COVID-19. We have launched partnerships in New York, such as with the NYC Department of Education to ensure that up to 800 medically-fragile children receive the daily meals they rely on. In California, partnerships with the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank, the City of San Jose, and the City of Stockton could serve 100,000 households weekly.
Corporate partners and other donors are joining us to scale this effort even more quickly. Contact social-impact@doordash.com to learn more.
